This Steinway B was formally owned by Glenn Gould It had fallen into poor condition as a result of aging and work that had been done to it. Serge Harel, Precision TouchDesign Installer from Quebec City, documented the touch weight metrology then prepared the piano with new parts, new action rails, and he installed scaled hammer weights and scaled key lead weights using Precision TouchDesignTM.
The preparation was done in March 2001 especially for Alfred Brendel so that the piano would be in the best possible condition for him to practice on during his stay at the palace residence. Stanwood Piano Innovations Inc. donated the PTD as a gift to Canada and a tribute to Glenn Gould and received recognition and appreciation by the Governor General of Canada.
This piano is considered a national treasure and is situated in the Ballroom and used for concert events. In the Rideau Hall Web Page, in the virtuall tour, go to "Select" then select the panorama of the Ballroom. When you click and drag on the image you can pan around the room and see the piano.
